From Market Stalls to Making a Difference, Our Day at The Cedars Hotel
Saturday 29 August 2026 was another special day for Dry River Children Charity as we set up our market stall at The Cedars Hotel in Barnstaple.
It was wonderful to be surrounded by stalls from other charities and organisations, all working in different ways to make a difference. Days like this remind us just how powerful community spirit can be when people come together for something bigger than themselves.
We brought along our colourful Kenyan crafts, jewellery, sarongs, dog collars, leads and other handmade treasures, giving visitors the opportunity to take home something beautiful while helping children and communities in Samburu, Kenya.
Most importantly, we were able to raise valuable funds towards our £12,000 fundraising target. Every pound takes us another step closer to our goal of bringing solar power, a computer lab and, we hope, a borehole for clean water to Ntilal Primary School and the surrounding community.
These are not simply buildings, equipment or facilities. They represent opportunity, education, dignity and a better future for children who have so little access to the resources many of us take for granted.
£12,000 and counting…
Our journey is far from over. We are still working hard to reach our £12,000 target, and we need your help to make this dream a reality.
Our hope is to travel back to Samburu sometime in the new year and continue the work we have started. We want to be there to see these projects become a reality and, most importantly, to see the difference they make to the children and community.
Please join us. Donate, support one of our fundraising events, buy something from our stalls, share our story or simply tell someone about what we are trying to achieve.
Every contribution, no matter how small, brings us closer.
Together, we can make this possible. Together, we can help create opportunities where there were once very few.
Every penny matters
We are incredibly proud that we cover all of our own overheads, meaning that the money we raise goes straight back into the charity work and the communities we support.
From a market stall in North Devon to a school in remote Samburu, every purchase, donation and word of support helps connect these two communities.
Thank you to everyone who stopped by our stall, bought something, donated, encouraged us or simply took the time to listen to our story.
We couldn't do this without you.
£12,000 is our target. The dream is bigger than the number. And together, we can make it happen.
